D-Amino acid metabolism in bacteria

چکیده
Abstract Bacteria produce diverse d-amino acids, which are essential components of cell wall peptidoglycan. Incorporation these acids into peptidoglycan contributes to bacterial adaptation environmental changes and threats. d-Amino have been associated with growth, biofilm formation dispersal regulation metabolism. The diversity in bacteria is primarily due the activities amino acid racemases that catalyse interconversion d- l-enantiomers acids. Recent studies revealed possess multiple enzymes racemase activities. Therefore, elucidating metabolism by critical understand biological significance behaviour bacteria. In this review, we focus on metabolic pathways six types

Antagonisms in the utilization of d-amino acids by lactic acid bacteria. IV. d-Aspartic acid.
Investigations with glutamic acid, methionine, and alanine have shown that n-amino acid utilization by lactic acid bacteria may be inhibited by specific antimetabolites (l-4). This has been taken to indicate that a conversion of o-amino acid substrate to the L form precedes its utilization, and that this process may be blocked by an appropriate inhibitor. Both Land n-alanines have been shown to...
متن کاملd-Amino Acid Catabolism Is Common Among Soil-Dwelling Bacteria
Soil and rhizosphere environments were examined in order to determine the identity and relative abundance of bacteria that catabolize d- and l-amino acids as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen. All substrates were readily catabolized by bacteria from both environments, with most d-amino acids giving similar CFU counts to their l-amino acid counterparts. CFU count ratios between l- and d-ami...

AB S T R A C T To evaluate the factors regulating gluconeogenesis in pregnancy, plasma amino acid levels were determined during the course of an 84-90 hr fast in physically healthy women studied during wk 16-22 of gestation (before undergoing therapeutic abortion), and in nonpregnant controls. The effect of pregnancy on the glycemic response to exogenous alanine administration during starvation...
متن کاملDistribution of D-amino acids in vinegars and involvement of lactic acid bacteria in the production of D-amino acids
Levels of free D-amino acids were compared in 11 vinegars produced from different sources or through different manufacturing processes. To analyze the D- and L-amino acids, the enantiomers were initially converted into diastereomers using pre-column derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde plus N-acethyl-L-cysteine or N-tert-butyloxycarbonyl-L-cysteine. This was followed by separation of the resu...
متن کاملAmino acid decarboxylases of lactic acid bacteria.
Many strains of a wide variety of bacterial species have been studied for their amino acid decarboxylase activity (Gale, 1946). However, to our knowledge the lactobacilli have not been examined. It has been shown in our laboratory that oral lactobacilli may be classified into three types according to their ability to attack certain carbohydrates, intensity of acid production from glucose, and b...
